kim's Wall (331)

Good grief, that's a lot of books! I admire your obvious passion for reading, and humour in the face of your detractors. I've just read back several pages of posts and am astonished at the obsession a number of people hold in disproving your ability to read such a large number of books. I'm a little sad for them, to be honest - do they have nothing better to do? I am a literature student and I work in a bookstore, and I can assure anyone who doubts Kim's total that it is entirely possible to read 10 000 books over 30 or so years - particularly if, like me, you watch only about 3 hours of TV a week. And a number of excellent novels and non-fiction texts are not particularly long.

"The Road" is brilliant, as is the rest of McCarthy's oeuvre. If you enjoy it, I highly recommend "Blood Meridian", if you haven't already read it. Best wishes.

Oh, I just finished the road. Pure devastation. Enjoy.

Why do people persist in assuming that two books a week is a lot?

Is it possible to even retain all of this knowledge at such a speed? Does anything get absorbed? You'd have to be a savant. And do you enjoy anything you read at such a speed? I mean, even if you read two books a week, it'd still take 100 years to read that many books.....

... Merci

Oh always nice to see someone who has mastered literacy! :)

Have you calculated your reading speed, maybe you can start competing in the world speed reading champion ships that Tony Buzan started up. Are you self taught or did you have some good teacher that introduced you to high reading speeds?

By the way, for the people who might not believe you can read really fast and that it isn't humanly possible to read really fast you should check out Tony Buzan. And the worlds fastest reader reads about 3800 words a minute.
Which is like a 300page book in 20 minutes or so.
