Quote-leftThis was a very entertaining read. However, I have major disagreements with what Crichton is not so subtly preaching in this book. He complains that research is biased and, therefore, not valid....yet he picks and chooses his evidence to support his conclusion which is exactly what he's railing against. I do agree with him that the "hype" of global warming has gotten a bit out of control and that there is some exaggeration - especially on the part of the media. However, Crichton seems to claim that this invalidates all the good solid research that has been done that makes a VERY strong case for global warming as a problem that must be addressed thoughtfully. Here is an excellent rebuttal by a NASA scientist...one of many rebuttals out there, but this one isn't TOO mired in science and stats: http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=74 ... again, I enjoyed this read....I probably zapped half a star for the preachiness...but I was very entertained.Quote-right

Quote-leftThe science is interesting, the plot is mundane and unrealistic (i.e. a super agent allowing global warming skeptic lawyer to tag along like an old school Marvel Team up?).Quote-right

Quote-lefthe gets on his soap box on this one, but MC does make you take a little different look at conventional wisdom here.Quote-right

Quote-leftI thoroughly enjoyed reading roughly the first 1/3 of the book. To say that it then got a little self-indulgent would be a gross understatement. To say that it became outright ridiculous might be unkind, but imo completely deserved. Politics aside (believe what you will about my ability to put politics aside (and I'll believe what I may about yours to do the same)), this book barely held my interest enough to get me to its utterly ridiculous conclusion.

I would have rated this book zero stars, except that I feel more aware of the role of media and celebrity with regards to geo-political issues of our day. For those of you who deny global warming (or climate change or whatever we should be calling it) or for those of you that have a completely unsophisticated idea about what global warming is, I'd urge you to read half of this book, and then research the debate on both sides of the issue. The better informed we are, the better able we are to support our position, as well as the position of our ideological opponents.Quote-right

Quote-leftNot my favourite crichton novel, but there are a lot of interesting points of view on the environment.Quote-right

Quote-leftThis book made me question everything I heard in the media for weeks and months as to true 'reality'...because reality is 99% perception. Great book for making you think about man's place in the world. Gruesome, suspenseful ending.Quote-right

His only fiction novel with referencesQuote-right

Quote-leftThis book was awesome. Crichton does so much research for his books... the information he had on global warming was fascinating!Quote-right

Quote-leftEveryone should read this book, his research and facts about the boloney we are being sold about global warming is an eye opener. I love anything he writes.Quote-right
