haha... I think that it says that it is part of Oprah's book club becasue it became popular after it was added to her book culb, and because Oprah is Oprah and she is famous and all that.
I also find it really annoying. I don't want the books I buy to have her name all over them. I don't want people to think I read these books because Oprah has suggested them, a lot of them I read before Oprah even knew about them.
Exactly! Me too. I will avoid buying books because they have her name on them, if I can. I'll hunt for another copy...one without her name on it. I hate the woman and I don't want people to think I read books she suggests.
But her names NOT on it. The cover picture displayed here doesn't say anything about her. My copy didn't say anything about her either. So why does facebook have it as part of the title? It's annoying.
I'm with you guys. I will not buy a book if it says Oprah's Book Club on it. Fortunately, I got my copy of the road before it was in the "book club." Unfortunately, however, I just bought a used copy of The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen and I didn't realize it until after I bought it that it says "Oprah's Book Club". Grr..
it would seem that a recommendation from oprah is more persuasive than the fact that it won the Pulitzer Prize...interesting...
I agree! It is such filth and has been really bugging me. When you search for the book online, her name comes up! It's so ridiculous.
Glad to see other people had the same thought of me. Pretty insulting to Cormac also that he can't have his book on here without promoting Oprah. Since when does Oprah pull more weight than the Pulitzer Prize?
Yes, it's annoying, but hey, if it influences someone to buy a good book, makes a little money for the writer, and does absolutely anything to counter the 'dumbing down of America' then what do I care? A good book is a good book. Please don't allow reverse snobbery to penalize the author.
