Not to sound like some paranoid conspiracy theorist but if you think about it...
Read the first few pages again now that we have a far right administration, you'll freak out.
Aye, I just read it a couple years ago, and I could sleep. For a while there, I thought Orsan Wells was really a current writer writing of this bush administration. Creepy
its worse cause when they do catch you they will crush ou till you denouce everything you hold dear thats scary i sat their and hoped he would trick them, still retain a part of his beliefs but they so utterlly crush him its tragic, the idea that that could ever happen is a chilling thought!
This could never happen. Man is too much in love with himself to allow another to completely overtake him. Regimes have risen and fallen, some of which employed total control of the populace to the best of their current technological abilities, but none of them lasted. An absolute paradigm shift would have to occur worldwide, because other countries would view it as 'bad' or 'wrong' (as they should, I believe) and intervene. Additionally, there could never be any cooperation between countries to overtake the world (i.e. the eternal war). We cannot even conduct proper federalism in the greatest country in the world (just kidding, eurofags), how could different countries conspire to achieve a master plan when they can't even sit in the same room without shouting at each other.
P.S. George Orwell was an idealist, communist, political satirist, and novelist, not a magic 8-ball.
It's not supposed to be entirely literal. And there's nothing to suggest that the regime in 1984 lasted either, arguing that a country would intervene to stop any form of government from doing this sort of thing is ridiculous. Some things just can't be stopped. Sure maybe once or twice, but if the regime is popular (as it would have to be to get power, well in a western democratic situation, as we assume 1984 to have been set in) then no country has the right to intervene with the will of the people in another country. Sure they may come to realise their folly (Nazi Germany anyone?) but it's just the way it is. The only reason anyone interfered there is because Hitler got a little too ambtious with his invasions, most countries were happy to leave it.
Actually Orwell despiced communism and in particular Stalinism. He was actually a socialist, theres a small but significant difference.
Literally, i agree - no way this world will look exactly like Orwell wrote. But...our every move is already monitored. Every one. Do you have a cell phone? Yes? Then know this. They know where you are. Exactly where you are. As far as i know, every call is monitored by a voice recognition software that's recording words like bomb, kill, murder...etc...("greatest country" only? (i'm an "eurofag"))
People are manipulated all the time. Greatest power == media. Whoever controls the spice(media), controls the universe(people). And "they" do control the media. Didn't You notice, that media are full of celebrities and other uninteresting stuff? Full of meaningless bull-excrement that has absolutely nothing to do with real life?
They say ignorance is a bliss...Indeed. You can't complain, if you don't know what to complain about. Cooperation? Why? the "greatest country" is already spread around the world building anti-missile defences where they can. Doing military incursions where it suits them. I'm not going to say a single bad word about the dead soldiers on all sides. There is a shame though, that they died ignorant of their real purpose. Power, oil, money. Russians did the same. British, french, spanish...all the same. Whoever has power desires more. And there are already means to extend the power.
There are far too many similarities this world has with 1984. You just need to look around. Open Your eyes.
It's not my wish to start a flame, but this world is a lie. Just like the cake is a lie. We're bred to be mindless robots in a grand scheme of some unknown individuals we don't know. And who's to blame? Our ignorance.
