Nicely done short unhappy farce by the author of the Sally Lockhart and His Dark Materials series.
Considering this was a novel aimed at young teenagers, and I read it when I was 17, I was utterly distraught by the ending, and completely wrapped up in the simple plot. A plain tale of young love.
so depressing. Even though he tells you in the first line what is going to happen, you still hope against hope that it won't end like that.

Read it ages ago randomly, had never heard of PP at the time, don't remember being that impressed by it.
