Jody never asked to become a vampire. But when she wakes up under an alley Dumpster with a badly burned arm, an aching neck, superhuman strength, and a distinctly Nosferatuan thirst, she realizes the decision has been made for her.
Making the transition from the nine-to-five grind to an eternity of nocturnal prowlings is going to take some doing, however, and that's where C. Thomas Flood fits in. A would-be Kerouac from Incontinence, Indiana, Tommy (to his friends) is biding his time nigh... (show more)
Delighted me, interesting insight into how women exist in society. Vampire story, light.
Unexpected at every turn, but so funny i laughed almost the entire time and that never happens with vampire books. Got to love that Dark Humor :)
It's alright. There is no poetry, nor is there much substance, but I admired the subtle humor found in placing a fictioniong monster in a realistic setting. Not just believable, but this is probably how the average guy would react to finding out his girlfriend is a vampire. And while I am sure most night crews at supermarkets are more clean edge (on the clock) I would not be suprised to hear that the fictional crew called the Animals are based more from Moore's experience than fancy. Sadly the most intersting character, the Emperor, has no significant story, and the main characters, Jodi and Tom Flood, are over shadowed by the homeless secondary character and the ecclectic night crew. The couple does have plenty of "so true" moments which, apparently will happen dating humans or vampires, while other moments such as proposals of marriage to Tom from six chinamen all named Wong seem to come out of left field. These moments are enough to make you shake your head or laugh out loud. Frankly if you are looking for a vampire tale with substance, then pick up "Dracula" by Bram Stoker or anyting in the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. If you are looking for a light story, easy to read, with fun and the occasional bloodsucking, then you might want to try this.
Pretty damn funny- definitely makes me want to read more Moore, Master of the lighter side of darkness. Highly recommended for all my fellow Twilighters...
I read this and You Suck in just a matter of days. I can't say that they are the best books I've ever read but they are fun and Moore keeps you entertained throughout. I just picked up Lamb and anxious to start it.
