Fabulously written. A great book about the history about american capitalism and of course, Rockefeller.
Interesting book. Read this along with "The Millionaire Mind" ... double interesting.
I loved this biography. Insights into the life of JDR are detailed and revealing. Highly recommended.
Well-researched, well-written bio, with less of an axe to grind than John D.'s original biographers had...
My "text" for a Business History course once upon a time. JDR is admirable in his actions, discipline, organization, and vision for the future. May we all learn from his one-time world-dominance. Chernow's narrative was a great facilitator for a great story.
One of the best written and most interesting biographies I have ever read.
You feel like you know that guy after reading the book. I think I learned a lot about life reading the book watching Rockefeller walk through his. A really good book if you have the patience to read such a long biography.
This is a powerful book: an intriguing treatment of a great man's search for virtue amid his relentless "ends justify the means" pursuit of business domination. His discipline under all circumstances was unparalleled. He stands out as a grand example of treating money - whether modest means and great wealth - as a trust to be stewarded for greater good (interestingly, both as to the management of wealth itself and the selection of persons - including children - to entrust management decisions). Well worth the read.
Great book about a character we shouldn't soon forget. Chernow can make stuff like the internal workings of Rockefeller's trust system interesting.
