At Last an Escape from Big Government
Libertarian presidential candidate Harry Browne shows how we can get from todays oversized, $2 trillion federal government to a libertarian America in which you can live as a free person free to live your life as you think best, not as the politicians want free to raise your children by your values, not as the bureaucrats demand.
In this provocative book, Harry Browne demonstrates:
How we can be free of the income tax, so you can keep every do... (show more)
One of the better 101-level libertarian books I've read in awhile. I've read so many of these things over the years that it's no longer the argument itself for libertarianism that I'm looking at (I was sold years ago) but instead I'm looking at the style and it's academic value.
The Great Libertarian Offer is the 2000 Presidential Campaign Book for Harry Browne and a very good one at that. There are a series of arguments for a variety of social, economic, and personal issues addressed by Harry Browne, but unlike many campaign books by Libertarians, the arguments made in this work can be presented to anyone from John Q. Public to Dr. John Q. Academia; I find this range for a target audience to be unique.
I would have preferred to see more citations and/or footnotes with each chapter and there's probably a good 50 or so pages that could have been omitted since they were merely repeating what Browne had already covered in previous places in his book.
Overall, this was worth my time, because I was able to refine some of my own arguments and arm myself with some additional references. The chapters which directly and indirectly covered Environmentalism were among the best and I wish were in greater length.
Those who are not already familiar with Libertarianism, I would recommend starting with another work such as David Bergland's Libertarianism in One Lesson and then perhaps returning to this work another time
