A warm, intimate portrait of President Ronald Reagan by his confidant and friend of over 35 years.
Former aide and long-time family friend Michael Deaver first met Ronald Reagan during his 1966 campaign for governor of California and later served him in Sacramento and Washington, DC, as the president's deputy chief of staff. A great book by a great man about a great man. RIP, Mike Deaver.
If you are looking for an indepth analysis of the Reagan years and their policies, this is not the book to read. The sub-title is very accurate in that it is just a snapshot into parts of the Reagan's private and political lives that Mr. Deaver shared with them. But it is still entertaining and informative nonetheless. It seemed that the main message Mr. Deaver was trying to get across was that President was an honest, decent man who was totally devoted to his country, and his wife Nancy. If that was his intention, Mr. Deaver succeeded. Some of the anecdotes are amusing, some are touching, all of them indicative of the type of man Ronald Reagan was. Fast and easy read for anyone who wants some light history to peruse.
Mike Deaver just died a short time ago.
You should read this book. Everyone should read this book.
Yea, yea, I know that not everyone believes that Reagan was a good thing. I'm not even sure he was a good thing. But he was a good guy. Plus, he was successful. If for no other reason, read this book to find out more about him. You'll probably appreciate him more. (unless of course, you don't want to).
I used to give this book away as reward for good work at the VC. One of my all-time favorite books on Dutch. From his aid-de-camp. I would love to be Deaver.
There are a couple stories that will make you cry and laugh at the same time. It also provides a sad glimpse into the mortality of Reagan. I shudder to think what Nancy had to endure.
