Eh - I don't think that I am historically or politically inclined enough to fully appreciate the message, which seems a little a tired.
i was a little disappointed...i imagined it to be more intense.. good discussion on historicity etc though.
Great story about how people respond differently during difficult times. But he writes without judging. And he writes beautifully.
Very intriguing as always, McEwan delivers a skeptical book of mind twisting fiction. I like it but I don't think the best of him like Saturday or Atonement, but god for someone that it just starting to know this marvelous writer.
This is the story of June, narrated by his skeptical Son in law, of the story of the encounter with with two black that have come to have tremendous chock in her life transforming her into what is of her now. As it continues McEwan untangle the reasons of this life changing story for both June and her Son in law.
had a difficult time getting through the 140 pages. totally lost interest in the books few characters, despite being a character driven novella.
Strong... Seemed like good material for High Holiday sermons. A little late for this year, but I'd put it on my rabbis recommended August reading list.
