A candid, wise, and warmly personal book in which Lewis explores the possibilities and problems of the four basic kinds of human love- affection, friendship, erotic love, and the love of God. “Immensely worthwhile for its simplicity...a rare and memorable book” (Sydney J. Harris).
good, but hard to get through. very wordy--i had to read some sentences a fewtimes over just to get the meaning of what he was trying to say.
This work has been one of the most influential of Lewis' writings on my understanding of love and his other works.
A philosophical treatise about the different kinds of love. It is thought-provoking but a highly theoretical book. You may not agree with it, but it should be of have interest to anyone into philosophy, or anyone interested in examining the nature of love or human interaction generally.
(Read September 2003) When I read a CS Lewis book, I always end up being elnlightened/challenged on all sorts of topics, not just the one that I imagined the book was addressing. Similar here. Possibly my first specific encounter with the idea that enjoying God (e.g. reading a good book under a tree) was just as much worshipping God as those activities usually descibed as worship.
Such a great book. Lewis' The Four Loves will teach you more about why you feel the way you do about the people in your life -- even your dog!
In one of his more complicated and technical, from a theological standpoint at least, works, Lewis explores the differences and relationships of four types of love. A good read.
A must! A simple but clear approach to understanding the wonderful emotion and how it plays out positively and negatively in ALL our relationships! A master!
